The East England distribution area covers East Anglia and the Home Counties - Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. It is GSP group A, the northern half of what UK Power Networks operates, and it holds the highest population of any English region outside London.
Agile prices are not national. Every half-hour slot is priced from the same wholesale auction, but the number Octopus bills you is that auction run through a set of regional values - a different multiplier and a different peak addition for each of the 14 UK areas. This page sets out the ones that apply here.
East England's 13p/kWh peak addition is the second-highest of the 14 areas, behind only the East Midlands.
At a wholesale price of 10p/kWh that gives 21.0p/kWh off-peak and 34.0p/kWh during the peak, before VAT and the levy discount.
The formula above stops two steps short of the rate on your bill, and those steps are the same in every region. VAT is applied, and a green-levy discount is subtracted.
Both are currently at temporary values. The UK government's relief on domestic electricity runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027 inclusive, and for the whole of that window the VAT multiplier is 1.0 rather than the standard 5%, and the green-levy discount is 3.34p/kWh rather than 3.5p/kWh. Outside the window the standard figures apply, and the two worked examples above are quoted before either step.
Its 7.04p/kWh export peak addition is the fourth-highest of the 14 areas.
The same 10p/kWh wholesale price exports at 10.59p/kWh, or 17.63p/kWh during the peak.
Both formulas were last reviewed on .
Octopus Agile is priced per distribution area, so the same wholesale auction produces a different rate in each of Great Britain's 14 GSP groups. The letter in brackets is the region code the site uses in its URLs - /?region=L for South West England, for example. Each region also has a page of its own, listed below.
